What do I need to know to be able to create basic brochure websites for small business?

HTML
XHTML
CSS
JavaScript
SEO
Usability/ Accessibility

Anything else?

Unix would come in handy, and Apache mod_rewrite stuff might also be useful.

Personally, I always use php in the simplest websites, so that I don't have to put all the header information into each file manually – which makes it easier to mod later on. You could use SSI for this at a pinch I guess, but for some reason I don't understand this can be hard to port from one server to another.

I also use as little javascript as possible, as there are quite a number of people who run browsers with scripts turned off.
